Touchpoint Disinfection: Where Germs Really Spread at Work

The twelve surfaces that carry most of the germ load in a busy building, and how often each one should be disinfected to keep sickness absence down.

Touchpoint Disinfection: Where Germs Really Spread at Work

Most workplace transmission happens on a small number of surfaces that everybody touches and almost nobody cleans between users.

The twelve highest-risk touchpoints

  1. Entrance door handles and push plates
  2. Lift buttons
  3. Reception desk edge and pens
  4. Shared keyboards and mice
  5. Desk phones and headsets
  6. Kitchen tap and kettle handle
  7. Fridge and microwave handles
  8. Vending and coffee machine buttons
  9. Washroom door handles and locks
  10. Soap and towel dispenser levers
  11. Meeting room tables and remote controls
  12. Stair handrails

How often is enough?

In a building with 50 or more daily occupants, disinfect these points at least twice a day — once mid-morning and once during the evening clean. Below 50 occupants, a single daily pass is usually sufficient outside flu season.

Products matter

We use certified disinfectants with a verified contact time, and we respect it. Wiping a surface dry immediately removes the very thing that kills the pathogen.

Make it visible

Colour-coded cloths, dated checklists on the back of washroom doors and a named supervisor per site keep standards honest. Every Belvedere contract includes a documented touchpoint schedule and monthly audit.
